With some exceptions, the thesis defense is a public event. To grant a PhD, the jury judges the candidate's work, his/her ability to place it in its scientific context and his/her general presentation skills.
At the end of the defense, the jury president prepares a report countersigned by all jury members and sends it to the candidate.
